From a design concept idea to reality/ the Zoooom-ato way!
On December 5th, 2019 I wrote about how I came up with the idea of Zomato Health, a few days after sharing my design concept on Behance. It’s April now and I find it implemented in the app!
A technology-driven but design-centric engineer and artist.
The design Recipe
How did I come up with creating a new dish for Zomato?
The idea of Zomato Health was to show users the nutrition intake of the food items they order from Zomato. As the food and quantity is usually mentioned in the description, an approx estimation of nutritional values is what I thought could be possible.
Sort-of research stuff
- I did some research on various nutritional applications — most of which guided the user with quantity and calories intake. It also showed other health related stats but let’s stick with food.
- The applications focused on tracking the nutrition (especially calories), suggesting healthy dishes and recipes, and giving details about food items.
- Talked to a few people, took inputs from them.
- Orders from franchise like eat.fit had the nutritional values over the container. That’s when it stuck me, “I am going to throw away the box anyway, how is this helpful?”
It was helpful for that instance, but not something I could remember later.
One thing piled over another, and I added them as ingredients to this recipe I call “Zomato Health”.
A few days back, I checked Zomato to find something similar and I was glad to see it. I felt, I should have followed more UX Research and presented a better UI portfolio to show my concept. But seeing the tiny seed of idea sprout into seedling was almost as exciting.
The design cooking
I have shared my design concept on Behance which has some additional ideas as well. Following are cut-offs from my design that are similar to the implementation in Zomato app (screenshots in the next section).

Appreciate and give your feedback on Behance and I hope to learn more on the way!
